JustinJustin grew up on the eastern coast of Australia in Emerald Beach. He started surfing at age 5 and has been in the water ever since.
He quickly became interested in competing, had success as a junior short board surfer and started competing on the Billabong junior series around Australia. He then went on to compete in various World Qualifying Series events around Australia and the world.
Justin has always had a love for surfing big waves and he made his first trip to Hawaii in 1999. His second day on the rock landed him 20 feet out from Waimea Bay where he rode a handful of great waves. The experience led him to surf Hawaii a couple times a year including tackling Pe’ahi Jaws on Maui.
Five years ago, he took up stand up surfing and, shortly after started surfing on the World Stand Up Tour.
In recent years, Justin has traveled to West Australia with his mate Jamie Mitchell to tackle Cowaramup Bombora – or Cow Bombie – a big wave open-ocean surf break that some have called the biggest swell to hit Western Australia in decades. He calls Cow Bombie one of his favorite big waves in the world. Being an offshore reef and a known spot for big sharks, He finds comfort in having Shark Eyes stickers on his boards.
“After meeting with Shanan and talking through the science and ideology of how Shark Eyes works, there was no way I wasn't going to have them on all of my boards. I truly feel like I have an extra safety option now while surfing extreme waves in extremely wild locations. I feel a little more at ease knowing my kids have them on their boards, as well. Safety has always been a top priority in surfing big waves and this low cost idea is a beauty. Thanks Shark Eyes! “
